Daniel Mick Hess, 78, of Claridon Township, a builder, passed away peacefully, May 10, 2007, at UHHS Geauga Medical Center in Claridon Township, after a courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Anemia (MDS).Born Feb. 3, 1929, in Newbury Township, he was a lifelong Geauga County resident.Daniel Hess married Janet Babcock Aug. 13, 1955, at the 1st Congregational Church of Claridon.Over many years, he built homes with his brothers, Ryan Homes, Williamsburg Homes, and Jamestown Builders. After his retirement from building, he maintained the properties of Gray Horse Farm in Munson Township.He was a member of 1st Congregational Church in Claridon. He graduated from Burton High School, Class of 1947. He and his brothers played baseball and basketball, and even had their own basketball team. He was a bluebird monitor at the Geauga Park District.Daniel enjoyed getting on his John Deere Gator with his Airedale, Augi and his grandchildren, to care for the 38 bluebird boxes which he built and placed on his property and feed the fish in the ponds. He was an avid golfer. He was the first Men’s Club Champion and he and his wife were Mr. & Mrs. Club Champion at the Pleasant Hills Golf Course. He played in many men’s leagues at area golf courses.Daniel was a skilled card player and enjoyed spending evenings playing with friends and family. He enjoyed spending his winters in Mount Dora, Fla. and Canadian fishing trips in the summer. He loved caring for his home and tending to his property.Survivors are his wife, Janet Hess of Claridon Township; daughters, Tracy (Richard) Reid and Becky (Jan) Brindo, both of Claridon Township; grandchildren, Emily (Rob) Wroblewski, Lydia, Samuel and Julia Reid, and Allison and Eric Brindo; and many nieces and nephews.His parents, John A. and Rose (Chladek) Hess; and brothers, John, George, Emil, Robert, William and Richard Hess, are deceased.Burial will be in Claridon Center Cemetery in Claridon Township.
