Chief Larry Gaspar, Chardon Fire Department left a message on January 22, 2014:
To the Rickard Family, our condolences on the passing of your great father. Lew was an excellent man and leader of the Chardon Fire Department for many years. We cannot thank him enough for his countless hours away from his family answering the call in order to help others. Chief Lew served with pride, dignity, and the respect of us all. His service to the community that he loved was done completely as a volunteer. Rest in peace Chief Rickard.

Dear Rickard family, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed walking into the bakery and seeing Lew face smiling at me. He had a great sense of humor and a kind way about him. I remember him as a volunteer fire fighter and loved seeing him run across the square to the firehouse to once again lead the others to save those in need. I am thankful for all those memories and more. May he rest in peace and my you find many Blessings during your healing process.

A wonderful man and a great Fire Chief. It would take a book to discuss all of the great things this man had done. "Code 28 Chardon, Code 28 Chardon, this is a last call for Chief Lew Rickard." May you rest in peace!
