CHARLES “CHUCK” ALEXANDER NEELY
Charles “Chuck” Alexander Neely, age 87, a lifelong Chardon resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 14, 2022, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Chuck was born on October 21, 1934, to Harry and Ruth (nee: Neely) Butcher in Cleveland, Ohio. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents Alexander and Ruth (nee: Cassel) Neely.
Chuck began his career at the Chardon Telephone Company at the age 17. He retired from the same company, then named Alltel, after 41 years of dedicated service. During his career he formed many friendships that lasted throughout his life.
On January 1, 2003, he married Linda Bowman. They enjoyed 19 wonderful years together, traveling to Alaska, Ireland and several trips out West to visit family and friends. They spent their summers in Canada and winters in North Carolina. As much as Chuck enjoyed traveling, he always loved coming home to Chardon. They also belonged to Pilgrim Christian Church.
Chuck enjoyed the outdoors, music, playing the drums, remodeling, woodworking and collecting tools for his projects. He was always ready to help out with a project and offering helpful advice. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years from 1956-1960, where he was stationed in California.
Chuck is survived by his wife Linda; his children, Mark (Bonnie), Chris (Greg), Scott (Rhonda), and Jennifer (Andy); 5 grandchildren, Jessica (Joseph), Sara, Rebecca, Ragen and Brady. He also leaves behind 2 great grandchildren and his sister Elenora (Dan). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Donna and brother Robert (Marian).
Chuck had a wonderful sense of humor. He made those around him laugh, smile and feel welcomed. He and his kind heart will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorials in remembrance of Chuck can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17816 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110.
