Charles A. Phipps Jr., 86, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, OH. Born on February 4, 1919, in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of Charles A. and Florence M. Phipps Sr.
Charles served his country with valor as a veteran of the US Army during World War II, stationed in the European Theater. Following his military service, he pursued a career as an accountant, contributing his expertise to various businesses in the Ashtabula area. He also held notable positions such as Conneaut city Auditor from 1964 to 1969 and administrator for Corey Hospital and office manager for Corey Medical Center, both in Chardon, OH.
Throughout his life, Charles was deeply involved in his community, dedicating his time to numerous organizations and causes. He was a member of the Burton-Middlefield, Conneaut, and Ashtabula Rotary Clubs, as well as serving as treasurer of the American Field Service in Ashtabula and as an Administrative Assistant for the Ashtabula Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a board member of the Ashtabula Area Council on Aging and was Past President of the Speech, Hearing and Rehabilitation Board in Ashtabula. His commitment to service extended to volunteering at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center, the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, and as an AARP tax counselor.
In 1942, Charles married Ann Rebecca “Becky” Corey in Chardon, OH, and together they shared a life filled with love and companionship. He was a devoted husband to Ann and a loving father to their children.
Charles is survived by his wife, Ann Rebecca “Becky” Corey of Ashtabula, OH; daughter, Elizabeth Stills of Ashtabula; grandchildren Lisa Hall, Christopher Hall, Jennifer Hall-Jones, and Jack Stills; great-grandchildren Casey and Bryan Hall-Jones; and daughter, Susan Sedlack.
Private family services have been held to honor his memory. Charles will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.
