Cartha (Roy) Ohanessian, 73, of Chardon, a homemaker, passed away at her home.Born Oct. 21, 1932, in Watertown, N.Y., she had lived in the Chardon/Chester Township area since 1962.She attended Pilgrim Christian Church and St. Luke Episcopal Church, both in Chardon. She was also active at her husband’s church, St. Gregory of Narek Armenian Church in Richmond Heights, where she had served on the parish council. She was a 1950 graduate of Watertown High School in Watertown, N.Y., attended Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y., transferring to the School of Nursing at Columbia University-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, and graduated as a registered nurse with a BS in nursing.Mrs. Ohanessian continued her studies at Case Western Reserve University-Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, receiving her MS degree in Gerontoligal nursing in 1986. She had been a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Geauga County Medical Society, the American Medical Association Alliance, Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, Chardon Park Board, and Geauga County YMCA Board. Mrs. Ohanessian had volunteered at the former Ingleside Nursing Home in Munson Township and the Margaret Wagner House in Euclid Heights. She was currently the coordinator for Stonecraft Ministries Bible Study.Survivors are her husband, Simon Ohanessian, M.D., whom she married June 4, 1955, in New York City;; daughters, Karen (David) O’Sickey of Hiram and Kimberly Schulz of Santa Clarita, Calif.; son, Michael Ohanessian of Warren; and five grandchildren.Her parents, Robert L. and Fern B. (Keyes) Roy, are deceased.Pastor Robert D. Penrod of Pilgrim Christian Church will officiate the services. Burial will be in Chardon Municipal Cemetery in Chardon.The family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 7861 Crile Road, Concord 44077.
