Bertha I. (nee, Ineman) Haueter, 85, of Chardon, died Feb. 21, 2007, at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg.Born Nov. 26, 1921, in Munson Township, she was a lifelong Chardon area resident.She was a member of the Chardon Zoning Board of Appeals from May of 1978 until the present. She had served as chairperson since January of 1985.Mrs. Haueter was an honors graduate of Chardon High School, Class of 1939. She graduated as a registered nurse from the Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She began her professional practice in hospital, office and private duty settings before being a Red Cross nurse for bloodmobile and disaster services for 21 years, until her retirement.A life-long member of the Chardon United Methodist Church, she had served on various committees. Mrs. Haueter and her late husband, spearheaded the drive to erect the bell tower at the front of the church, to hold the historical bell that had been given by Peter Chardon Brooks.In 1998, Mrs. Haueter, along with her husband, was elected to the Chardon High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame, for their contributions to the Chardon Local Schools and the Chardon community. She was an advocate for the Chardon Schools, and was an avid fan of Chardon High School sports, especially football and wrestling.Mrs. Haueter was an active member of the NEO Model A Club, the Penn-Ohio Model A Club, and the MARC (a national Model A Restorer’s Club), where she had presided as president. She also had served as an officer in the other clubs. She authored many articles about the restoration of Model A’s, served as a Master Judge at Model A restoration events, and was the owner of award winning restored Model A’s. Mrs. Haueter and her husband had traveled through 49 states in their 1930 Model A Briggs Town Sedan. She also volunteered more than 150 hours at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Mich.Mrs. Haueter was well known for her artistic abilities and for keeping her home and yard in picture perfect condition.She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and community.Mrs. Haueter retired in 1985, as the co-owner with her late husband of Haueter’s Sohio Station in Chardon, after 35 years.Survivors are her sons, James Haueter of Tempe, Ariz., and Thomas (Andrea) Haueter of Chardon; grandchildren, Pamela (Glen) Bachmann of Chandler, Ariz., Alison Haueter of Tempe, Ariz., Erika (Chris) Phillips of Madison, Heather (Jason) Karenbauer of Freeland, Mich., and Brian (Sara) Haueter of Chardon; and great-grandchildren, Alexander Haueter, Emily Phillips, Lauren Phillips, Justin Phillips, Alyse Karenbauer, Haydn Haueter and Edyn Haueter. She also leaves special friend, Lou Emanuele of Concord Township.Her husband, Arnold E. Haueter, whom she married Aug. 19, 1943, in Chester Township, died Jan. 16, 2000. Her parents, James and Lottie Ineman, are also deceased.The Rev. Henry Woodruff Ph.D. of Chardon United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Burial will be in Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
