Andrew Eugene Probala, 100, of Montville, died Jan. 21, 2009, at Geauga Hospital.Born Nov. 16, 1908, in Cleveland, he had been a lifelong area resident and built his home in Montville.Mr. Probala studied at The Cleveland School of Art and John Huntington Polytec. He continued his training in the field of architectural and interior design at the former Rorimer-Brooks Studio where he went on to become chief designer. He also worked for Irvin and Gormley Inc., and Fisher Aircraft. In 1942, Mr. Probala started A.E. Probala, Designer and Associates.During his career, Mr. Probala redesigned the interior of the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, as well as doing design for many other Cleveland businesses. He designed the American Embassy in Prague, Czechoslovakia and Walter P. Chrysler’s suite in the Chrysler Building in New York.He was a member of the Cleveland Society of Artists, The American Society of Interior Designers and the Industrial Designers Institute.Survivors are his son, Paul A. Probala of Montville; grandchildren, Andrew and Amy Probala; and sister, Delores “Lori” Peroni of Willoughby.His wife, Ruth (Kulish) Probala, whom he married Nov. 23, 1934, in Cleveland; parents, Andrew and Anna Probala; six brothers; and four sisters, are deceased.The Rev. Thomas Gilles of The Church of St. Mary will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
