Albert Michael Stanley, 89, of Montville Township, died June 18, 2011, at the home he built in Montville Township surrounded by his loving family.Born Nov. 23, 1921, in Salem, he had lived in Parkman Township before moving to Montville Township 64 years ago.Mr. Stanley was a tool and die maker and a farmer. He ran his own business A.M. Stanley Machine Shop. The business was started in 1969, and he retired in 2009.He married Sadie Beardsley April 20, 1947, in Montville Township. He was a salvage diver in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated in the D-day invasion June 6, 1942. His group had to clear Omaha Beach of the boats and bodies so the next wave of soldiers could make the beach. He also served the Ledgemont School Board during the 1970s.He was a member of Geauga County Fair Board for 24 years, retiring in 1999. He was also a life member of Amvets Post 1968 in Montville Township, American Legion Post 459 in Burton and The Montville Grange 666.Survivors are his wife, Sadie (Beardsley), whom he married April 20, 1947. They just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary recently; five children, Don (Joan) Stanley of Atmore, Ala., Kenneth (Linda) Stanley of Montville Township, Keith (Dorothy) Stanley of Warrenville, Ill., Karen (Steve) Zuchowski of Geneva and Karyl (Robert) Jarvis of Bath Township; 24 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother: John (Jean) Stanley of Parkman Township; four sisters, Lillian Schott of Chardon, Maxine Kinson of Middlefield, Sr. Elona Stanchak of Philadelphia, Pa., and Marion Hickox of Parkman Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth (Merva) Stanley; three brothers, Richard, Paul and Robert Stanchak; and four sisters, Elizabeth Gilmore, Catherine Carmony, Marcella Diefenderfer and Helen Larsen.Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, (Route 44, 500 feet south of Route 6/Chardon Square), Chardon. Pastor Robert Leonard of Hartsgrove Community Church, UCC, in Hartsgrove will officiate.Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the funeral home.
