Alan W. Stevens, 76, of Chardon Township and Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Feb. 18, 2010, in Port Charlotte.Born July 16, 1933, in Willoughby, he had lived in Eastlake before moving to Chardon in 1960.Mr. Stevens was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Morton Salt for 20 years, retiring in 1996.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Stevens built the largest windmill in Geauga County and has been building motorized bicycles for his friends in Port Charlotte, Fla. He loved vegetable gardening, canning, cooking and sharing what his garden reaped.Survivors are his wife, Nancy (Gross) Stevens of Chardon Township, whom he married May 27, 1953, in South Euclid; children, Susan (Gary) Fulton of Mentor, Mark (Mindy) Stevens of Rome Township, and Jennifer DeLegge of Midlothian, Va.; grandchildren, Brian (Julie) Fulton, Christopher Fulton and David (Caterina) Fulton, Lacey (Andy) Dolsen, Danny (Kelly) Stevens and Bonnie (Neil) Cunningham and Tommy, Jillian and Braden DeLegge; and great-grandchildren, Brett and Sarah Fulton, Emma, Ashley and Cameron Fulton, Madalena Fulton and Natalie Dolsen.He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Alan Stevens; parents, Elmer and Evelyn (Madsen) Stevens; and sisters, Nancy Solon and Betty Hamada.Private family burial will be held.
