William R. “Bill” Spear died peacefully on January 24, 2021 in Chardon, Ohio with his wife by his side, from complications resulting from Covid-19.
Born on February 27, 1935, he was a Chardon resident his entire life. He attended Chardon High School, graduating in 1953.
He was the proprietor of Spear Chrysler Plymouth, a business started by his father, and in the family for more than 50 years before transitioning into tractor and agricultural equipment sales under Spear Chardon Tractor Sales. After retiring, Bill stayed active in the business and could often be found at the shop six days a week. In his earlier years, Bill enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Chautauqua, NY, their home in Naples, FL, and anywhere else he could squeeze in a good joke and a round of golf. Exemplifying his love for cars, he was a former president of the Chrysler 300 Club. Bill will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and love of family.
Survivors are wife Beverly Jean, whom he married on May 19, 1956 in Chardon; sons William Edward (Kelly) of Hambden Township, Charles Stephen of West Kill, NY, and Gregory Alan (Estelle) of Munson Township; grandchildren, Andrew Brandon of Columbus and Dr. Estelle Bishop (James) of Los Altos, CA; siblings, L. Joseph of Hambden Township, Suzanne of Perry Township, Shirley Begley (Tom) of St. Petersburg, FL and Mary Thornton (Larry) of Alliance along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by brother Worthy Clark and parents William J. and Clarice I. Spear.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 401 North Street, Chardon, followed by an Open House and Celebration of Bill’s Life at the former Spear Chrysler Plymouth Garage, now Chardon Tractor Sales, 12600 GAR Highway, Hambden Township, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
