Uncle Rudy was a constant in my life. Though he was a man of few words, his heart was displayed for all who cared to look. His compassion is what stands out most when I think of him. The tears are rolling down my cheek as I write this because I am sad I will no longer receive texts from him. However, my heart is filled with joy because I have no doubt that he is in heaven celebrating Christmas every day. You see Uncle Rudy didn’t tell you he was going to do something for someone. He did it! Without fanfare and bragging. He just did it. The biggest one I can recall is him taking care of my mother even after her sister (his wife) passed. Not many would do that. I don’t mean just looking in on her. I mean having her live with him, and taking care of her with her preponderance of medical issues. I’m not saying he was a saint. He was human, and I know it was difficult at times. However, he didn’t let the difficulties of life and relationships stop him. He continued to do what he felt was right in his heart. Uncle Rudy did so so much for other people, uncomplaining for the most part, especially for the ones he loved. Taking care of them and making sure he did everything in his power to help them in their time of need. As a young girl I recall Uncle Rudy making my Halloween costume. I was a bug, and being the electronic genius he was, he manufactured antennas that lit up when I pushed a button with my thumb. Oh I got in so much trouble at the school assembly with that. Thanks Uncle Rudy I also remember him making my Barbie furniture that had lamps that lit as well. Oh how he spoiled me in his own special way. You can tell a lot about people by the way they treat the children in their life. Another fond memory that brings a smile to my face is his love for Doritos and Dr. Pepper. In later years he had to learn to curb those cravings for health issues. However, I have firsthand knowledge that his appreciation for those products never dulled. Additionally, when I passed the news to my sister that Uncle Rudy went to be with Jesus we both simultaneously said we were going to have eggs with chili powder for dinner that night as homage to Uncle Rudy. I can see him now laying on the couch, eyes closed, a subtle yet distinct snore occasionally emitting from somewhere between his nostrils and his throat. Then as soon as anyone mentioned the fact that Uncle Rudy was sleeping he would wiggle his big toe just to show that he wasn’t asleep. Letting everyone know, without saying a word, he was fully aware of your presence and ready to jump into action if you needed him. I love you Uncle Rudy, and you will be missed. Enjoy your eternity with Christ.

Rudy’s colleagues fondly referred to him by his nickname “The Chief” at Joslyn Hi-Voltage where he worked for many years as a key technician. He was a good friend and greeted everyone with his mischievous smile and wonderful sense of humor. His kind heart was ever present along with his playful practical jokes. He will be greatly missed but always remembered and loved. Deepest Sympathy and condolences to Sherry, grandchildren and family.
