RAYMOND ELTON KELLOGG, Age 96, of Claridon Twp., OH, died on November 24, 2014, at the Geauga Medical Center. Born May 2, 1918, on the family farm in Claridon, his cremated remains will be buried at the Claridon Center Cemetery. A true “cradle to grave story.”
A proud WWII veteran, Ray entered the US Army, prior to the war, in 1941, and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. Before being deployed overseas, he married Helen Kuchta on December 26, 1942, in San Antonio. Ray was in 7 major battles and campaigns in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters.
After the war, Ray built a home and raised his family in Claridon. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing, and supported his three boys in all their athletic and school activities. He had been active in the First Congregational Church of Claridon, Village Lodge #274 F&AM, the Geauga County Farm Bureau, Ruritans, and American Legion Post #459 In Burton, OH.
Ray worked as a supervisor for the Johnson Rubber Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1980. He then built the greenhouse where he raised hydroponic vegetables and sold to everyone. His “Sunray Farm” was the first hydroponic operation in the county.
Survivors include his sons; Ron (Debbie) of Gahanna, OH and Jim (Barbara) of Chardon, OH; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and sisters Liz, Evelyn, and Pat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Della (Nee: Shute) Kellogg; his wife, Helen; daughter, Marlene; son, Dave; sisters, Virginia and Marge; and brothers, Harold (Ty) and Chuck.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Claridon, Intersection of Mayfield Rd. and Claridon-Troy Rd. in Claridon Twp. Contributions are requested to the church c/o 13942 Mayfield Rd., Huntsburg, OH 44046.
