Priscilla Ann Eldredge (nee Parsons) age 93, a lifelong resident of Chardon, OH, died peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021. She was born in Chardon on November 18, 1927, to Hartley and Edna (nee: Hickox) Parsons. Priscilla was a 1945 graduate of Chardon High School. She married Jack R. Eldredge DDS in 1948 at her parent’s home on South Street.
Priscilla was a member of the Chardon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She received a Bachelors’ Degree from Western Reserve University in 1949 and a degree in Elementary Education from Lake Erie College in 1972. She was passionate about literacy and volunteered to help children and adults learn to read. As a school tutor, she designed creative games to help her students learn and many were published in Highlights for Children magazine. She enjoyed writing and you could find her stories in the “Chardon Comment” of the local newspaper.
Priscilla enjoyed ballroom dancing, Concerts in the Park, family games and gatherings, traveling, handcrafting and apple fritters from the Maple Festival. An excellent cook, she always felt it was important to have family meals together. She was a senior athlete and participated in the Senior Olympics and enjoyed “chair” volleyball, table tennis and singing at the senior center. She loved Chardon and was a fierce advocate for maintaining its small town charm. In 2012, at age 84, she published the booklet Chardon Public Square:1812-2012 to raise awareness of the “immeasurable value for the public” of the town square and the importance of preserving it as a large, open green space. That year, the Bicentennial Committee recognized her as a “Distinguished Citizen of Chardon”.
Survivors include her children, Laraine Grillo of Chardon, Martin Eldredge of Chardon, Karen Eldredge (Tim Nypaver) of Columbus, and grandchildren, Lisa, Scott, Kevin and Chris Grillo; Abigail Nypaver; and 7 great grandchildren, Kaylee Krause, Drew, Anthony, Sienna, CJ, Jordan, and Kyle Grillo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 4 sisters, Esther Johnson, Louise Seguione, Jeanne Bostwick and Dorothy Knapp.
A gathering for friends will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. with the Funeral Service to be at 7:30 p.m. at the Burr Funeral Home,116 South St., Chardon, OH.
