Patricia Lou Osredkar, age 75, of Hambden Township, passed away peacefully June 8, 2022. Patty, as she was affectionately known, was born the youngest of three girls to Melva and Michael Urbanic at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on April 7, 1947.
Patty grew up on the shores of Lake Erie next to Euclid Beach Park, a popular amusement park of the day. It is here where she garnered a love and appreciation of life’s whimseys. This appreciation also translated into a deep love of theatrics. Throughout high school (Collinwood Class of 1965) and college (Dakota Wesleyan), Patty was an active student of drama and a member of regional thespian troupes. Later in life, and for subsequent years to come, she was a member of Geauga Lyric Theater Guild where she participated in many local productions not only as a performer, but also as a director and youth director. Her enthusiasm for her craft helped to inspire a younger generation of thespians and her legacy lives on through them.
Perhaps the role Patty is best known for playing is that of mother. Always ready with a warm hug and a welcoming smile, she openly and genuinely listened without judgement thus endearing herself to many and earning the title second mom. To all her children, blood or otherwise, she was a source of encouragement and she inspired people to chase their dreams and appreciate the simple beauty of life.
On that note, when you are gazing upon the grandeur of Lake Erie or reveling in the enchantment of a midsummer’s field aglow with the luminescence of fireflies, think of Patty. Remember to relish the magic and the beauty of the simple things… it is as she would like.
Patty is survived by her loving husband and their five children Anton (Terri) Osredkar, Michael (Mary Kay) Osredkar, Miriam, Stephanie and Heleana, Grandchildren David (Savannah) Osredkar and Gabriel Osredkar, Great Granddaughter Opal, Sisters Barbara (Sam) Manuel, Joan (Phil) Palmer, their daughter Barbara and many nieces and nephews, in addition to her biological children Jon Mahn and Stacey Lieb.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Mildred “Nana” Rice, parents Melva and Michael Urbanic as well as her daughter Ursula.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 16th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024. A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Mary’s of the Assumption in Collinwood at a later to be determined date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village as Patty was always a huge lover of animals.
