NANCY LYNN OSTOVIC
Nancy Lynn Ostovic (nee: Johnson) age 72, a 48-year resident of Chardon, Ohio, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at her home. She was born on September 7, 1950, to Leonard S. and Betty Dean (nee: Fouts) Johnson, in Cleveland, Ohio. Nancy was a graduate of James Ford Rhodes High School, Class of 1968, and Kent State University, Class of 1972 with a BS degree in Deaf Education. She married Michael Ostovic on August 5, 1972.
Nancy first taught in the Deaf Education program for the Mayfield City Schools. After raising her children, Nancy worked for many years in the Special Needs Preschool Program for the Geauga County Education Service Center. After that, she worked for 9 years at the former Rosepointe Cottage Tea Room in Chardon. She was a long-time, faithful member of the Chardon United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Cantoria Choir, including playing clarinet for numerous performances. She, along with her husband Mike, loved playing in the Hand Bell choir as well. She was active in the church youth groups, Worship Committee, and United Methodist Women. Nancy loved family and lived life to the fullest. One of her favorite things to do was travel to see her grandchildren in their numerous activities and spend time with her family. She was a light to everyone she met.
Survivors include her husband; son Derrak (Melanie) Ostovic of Gainesville, Florida; daughter Mindy (Jake) Gargasz of Carmel, Indiana; and grandsons, Jackson and Evan Ostovic, MJ and Mason Gargasz.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sandra Rath.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024 on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. and following the service.
Although Nancy enjoyed flowers, especially daisies, she requested donations to the Chardon United Methodist Choirs.

We played a lot of softball together and Nancy was one of the biggest supporters of our team. She was always cheerful, sociable and very friendly. You couldn't help but appreciate her presence. You became one of my best and loyal customers at Junction Auto for well over 30 years . I always looked forward to working with the two of you, had many laughs along the way. Our many activities together with the Jaycees found her always willing to help with projects, set up our fun activities including our children and spouses.
Personally, I knew I could always count on her and Mike if I needed help of any kind or a listening ear. She was happy to host us when we visited Chardon after moving to North Canton. When she and the kids came to visit us in North Canton, she and Mindy shared a bed and it collapsed in the middle of the night. She just laughed. It has been many years since I’ve seen her at Jim Roscoe’s house. I cannot think of Chardon without thinking of Mike and Nancy, the fun times, and their support when I ran for school board.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and the Chardon community. We are thinking and praying for her family. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
