Muriel “Ann” DeMuth (nee Russell), 96, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2021. She was born May 16, 1925, in Niagara Falls, NY. Raised in East Cleveland, she attended high school in Holland Patent, NY, returning after graduation to East Cleveland. After high school she served as a draftsman during WWII at Thompson Products in Cleveland and later as a secretary at Reliance Electric in East Cleveland. Prior to retiring in 1986, she worked as a secretary at Uniroyal Chemical in Painesville Township for 23 years.
Singing in numerous music groups was a rewarding part of Ann’s life, starting with ten years in the choir of the First Presbyterian Church of East Cleveland, where she met and married her husband, Robert DeMuth, in 1951. They moved to Chardon in 1955. She sang in the Pilgrim Christian Church Choir for the next 45 years. For decades, she sang as a chorus member in musicals with the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, where she also served as a staff and board member. She was a member of the Beaux and Belles, a regional singing group. In the early 1960s, she welcomed families to Chardon as the “Welcome Wagon Lady.” For decades, she was an event organizer and newsletter editor for the IndividuALLS-East Singles Club of Lake County. Since the early 1970s, she resided in Painesville and Fairport Harbor.
Survivors include her son, John (Marilyn) DeMuth, Brecksville, OH; daughter Suzanne (Bob Hoover) DeMuth, Rochester, NY; ten grandchildren; and Marcia Paschkis, a cousin, of Gwynedd, PA. Ann was preceded in death by: parents George Ely Russell, Sr., and Dorothy Powell Russell; brother George Ely Russell, Jr.; her husband, Robert, in 1982; and recently by her special friend, Rudy Below. Ever the optimist, her final wishes are shared in “Death is nothing at all” (H.S. Holland).
