JULIA MARY (nee: Pastor) BRICE
On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, 96 year young, Mom, aka Aunt Julie, Grandma Julie, Mama Jule, decided it was time to rejoin Dad, who passed in 2003. She missed her 97th birthday by 15 days! She left us peacefully with family at her bedside at Alma Bella Manor in Vallejo, CA, where she received excellent care.
Mom lived a long, healthy, and happy life. She was 1 of 6 siblings, a daughter of Slovak parents, Joe & Barbara Pastor, who immigrated in the 19-teens. She grew up in the Slavic Cleveland neighborhood by Buckeye Road, experienced the Great Depression, graduated from John Hay Secretarial High School, then met Dad (Vincent). However, WWII intervened, they got married and then were not able to see each other for several years, including son, Vince, until Dad completed his military duties in Europe. Mom maintained the household during the war, then while Dad was a firefighter and house painter. They were founding members of St. Paschal Baylon parish, Highland, Hts., Ohio. In her youth she enjoyed bowling and a casual round of golf. When we relocated to California in 2015, she readily left her Lyndhurst, OH, residence of some 60 years, gave up her driver’s license, and enjoyed independent living in California, playing bingo, doing word puzzles and enjoying her great grandchildren. During her last years, folks got to know her as the lovely elderly lady, greeting them with her sweet smile, and always saying “thank you”.
Julia is survived by her sons: Vincent of Ossining, NY and Edward (Patricia) Brice of Vallejo, CA; granddaughter: Melissa (Josh) Dykstra; great grandchildren: Aidan & Brennan Dykstra of Castro Valley, CA; and grandson: Michael Brice of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her brother George Pastor of Macedonia, OH and many nieces and nephews.
She will rejoin Dad in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio, after a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s of Chardon, Ohio, Wednesday, July 3, 10am. Burr Funeral Home in Chardon is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Hospice, 5099 Commercial Circle, Suite 210, Concord, CA 94520, noting Concord Hospice on the check memo.
