John Philip Letki, age 70, of Rome Township, passed away on October 29, 2021 in Chardon, Ohio. Born in Buffalo, New York on September 5, 1951 to Kazimier and Mary (nee: Wadowiec) Letki, John married the love of his life Geri in August of 1973, later welcoming the birth of their son JonPaul in 1976 and their daughter Jessica in 1980.
With a passion for camping and travelling with his beloved wife Geri, John loved being wherever the fun was. A social butterfly if there ever was one, he was a long-standing member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity Chapter in Angola, Indiana and enjoyed nothing more than being around his neighbors, friends and family whenever he could. Whether as the recipient of the Michael H. Badorian Service Award while at Tri State, the Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Board for the City of Chardon, or most recently as Secretary of the Lake Cardinal Estates community, John was always at the center of anything that could have an impact on the community he was living in.
He also played a significant role in his son JonPaul’s Boy Scout experience, where he was a committee member as well as the Committee Chairman. John also took on the role of awards manager for the many years they were part of Troop 64.
As a die-hard Michigan Football fan, he inexplicably surrounded himself with Ohio State fans, successfully enduring decades of good-natured teasing from his friends and family…teasing that he “gave” as good as he “got.” The camaraderie of sports helped John build many long-lasting relationships over the years; relationships that go back as far as when he was a three-sport star athlete in high school. Golf was also an important part of his life, from both a competitive and social perspective. In fact, beating him at golf was the only way he allowed his future son-in-law to marry his daughter Jessica.
When he wasn’t at a social function with his friends, you would often find him fishing on Lake Cardinal, chasing after his ball on the golf course, or cruising around on his ATV visiting with members of the lake community. John also had a passion for buying, restoring and selling antique furniture. Through their business Yesterday’s Dreams, John and Geri bought and sold dozens of pieces that were beautifully restored and sold over the years. They also kept many pieces for themselves, which can be found in their own home and the homes of their two children.
John is survived by his loving wife, Geri (nee: Witucki) Letki; son, JonPaul (Sarah) Letki; daughter, Jessica (Tim) Ward; Grandchildren, Wyatt (Gabby fiancée) Letki, Gillian Letki, Kyle Letki, Caleb Ward and Nathan Ward; siblings, Ruth (David) Rice, Debbie (Ned) O’Brien and Paul (Jan). Nephews Tim (Elaine), David and Niece Caitlin. Joe and Diane (Letki) Dombrowski as well as his great nephew & great nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Dorothy Witucki, his brother, Tim Letki, and granddaughter, Lilianna Ward.
