JANET BABCOCK HESS
Died bravely and peacefully at home from lung cancer with her family by her side. Born February 22, 1933, in Cleveland to Clifford Clayton Babcock and Dorothy Spencer Babcock. She graduated from Chardon High School in 1951 and attended Ohio University, Hiram, and Lake Erie College. She married the love of her life, Daniel (Mick) Hess on August 13, 1955. Janet taught third grade for a year in Chesterland and then was a homemaker for the rest of her life. During the winter, they loved spending time at their home in Mount Dora, Florida. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing bridge, going on Casino trips, feeding her birds, raising and showing Llamas with her husband at their Cherry Knoll Farm and spending time with her family. She was a member of the 1st Congregational Church of Claridon and also attended Parkside Church with her family for 14 years, where she helped out with the Faithful Friends class. She loved her family greatly and her favorite times were when everyone was together. She is survived by her daughters Tracy (Rick) Reid, Becky (Jan) Brindo; Grandchildren Allison Neill, Eric (Stacey) Brindo, Emily (Robert) Wroblewski, Lydia (Daniel) Petrak, Samuel (Allyson) Reid, and Julia (Jonathon) Ward. She was “Grandma Great” to 10 great grandchildren, Jack and Olivia Brindo, James, Thomas, and Lucy Wroblewski, Camden, Clayton, and Hadley Petrak, Wesley and Dorothy Reid and two more grands due this summer.
Janet was preceded in death by beloved husband, Dan Hess on May 10, 2007, parents Dorothy and Clifford Babcock, brother Warren Babcock and sister-in-law, MaryAnn Babcock.
The Visitation with family and friends will be on Thursday, May 19, from 4-6PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, OH, with the Funeral Service following at 6PM. Interment will be on Friday, May 20, at 11AM at Claridon Center Cemetery. Donations are suggested to Geauga County Dog Warden, 12513 Merritt Road Chardon, OH 44024, or the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, 12450 Merritt Road Chardon, OH 44024.
