James Joseph Ondrey, age 64, of Middlefield, died February 21, 2021 at UH Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, a stone’s throw from where he was born on March 21, 1956 at UH McDonald Women’s Hospital. Known to all as Pim, he attended Gilmour Academy and Miami University of Ohio. Over the years, Pim worked in sales and in the restaurant industry. For a time, he ran his own restaurant called “Pim’s Pub” in Chesterland. As a bartender and as a farm manager, Pim made many friends who enjoyed his dry wit, musical tastes, and social nature. With his warm heart and cheerful nature, he often entertained his multitude of longtime friends with cookouts at the farm or accompanied them to musical, camping, or sporting events. Pim avidly followed all Cleveland sports and frequently contributed to Bud Shaw’s “You Said It ” column in the Plain Dealer. For many years, Pim volunteered as a driver for Geauga County Meals on Wheels. On Valentine’s Day, he gifted the elderly ladies on his route with flowers. Pim is survived by his sister, Carol, of Santa Barbara, CA; brothers, David (Ellen) and Thomas (Anne), all of Chardon, OH; nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces. Private services will be held at a later date.
