James A. Sojka
A life-long Geauga County resident, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Heather Hill Care Community in Munson Twp. He was born in Bedford, OH on November 11, 1932, the son of Yaro and Rebecca (nee: Leitch) Sojka. Jim was a graduate of Chester High School and served in the United State Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. He married Marion Kay Jones in Chardon, OH on May 19, 1956.
Jim loved all types of outdoor sports. He was a member and past president of the former Pleasant Hill Snowmobile Club and enjoyed hunting, boating and fishing, especially times with family in Canada. The family started with tent camping, then graduating to Motorcoach camping. He was also a fan of all Cleveland sports teams and a long-time member of Geauga Aerie 2261 in Chardon.
Jim retired from the former WW Meats in Cleveland as General Manager. He never missed work in 43 years, including during the time of the huge winter storm in 1977-1978, when he drove his snowmobile down Mayfield Rd. from his home in Munson to Cleveland.
His survivors include his wife, Kay of Chardon; sons, Jim (Sandy) of Chardon Twp. and Scott (Linda) of North Ridgeville, OH; 5 Grandchildren, Brandon (Blair), Jacquelyn (Matt), Travis, Christopher (Katie) and Matthew; 3 Great grandchildren; sisters, Aggie Sojka-Sperry of Chardon Twp., Evie Bayzath and Gerry Boss of Chester Twp; brother, Kenny (Darlene) of Concord Twp. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Liz Ludlow; brothers, Robert and Yaro “Butch” Sojka.
The family will receive friends at the Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 116 South St., Chardon, OH, on Tuesday, June 21, from 9:00 a.m. until Noon. Military honors will be at Noon, followed by a luncheon at the Chardon VFW Post 6519, 752 Water St., Chardon, OH.
