GERALD R. “JERRY” HAWKINS
Age 72 of Burton Twp., died unexpectedly at his home on October 12, 2020. Born July 11, 1948 in Akron to Joseph and Alice (nee: Lemley) Hawkins, he was a long time area resident. Jerry was an active member of Mount Akra Lodge, F.&A.M., he enjoyed camping, fishing, cooking and cutting down trees. Jerry proudly served in the US Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. He was a Respiratory Therapist for many local hospitals and nursing homes. He retired from Heather Hill after 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann (nee: Silvernail), whom he married in 1979, daughters Lisa (Brian) Abbott of Uniontown, Sarah (Thaddeus) Wojtasik of Parkman and Victoria (Marc) Reynolds of Amhurst, grandchildren Zach Abbott, Catherine, Trinity, Bobby, Allie, Drew, Ben Wojtasik and Emmie Reynolds. He also leaves his sister, Mary Jo (Jim) McDonald of Akron and brother Bill (Joyce) Spencer of Uniontown. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, R.J. Hawkins, in 2004.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM and 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon. A Masonic service will be at 7:00 PM Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 17, 2020 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Burial will follow at Welton Cemetery, Burton.
