Gerald John Petrus, age 78, of Munson Township, OH, died March 11, 2018, at his home. Born December 14, 1939, in Cleveland, Oh to John and Frances (nee: Francis) Petrus. Gerald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962.
Gerald was a design draftsman, retiring from Lubrizol Corp., in 1999.
He loved woodworking and was a yearly exhibitor and ribbon winner at the Great Geauga County Fair. He was also an experienced horseman, enjoying barrel racing, all other aspects of western riding, and trail riding with his beloved horse Rocky. He and Rocky also participated with the Geauga Co. Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol. Gerald was a world history buff and an avid reader, especially enjoying James Michener novels.
Survivors include his Loving wife, Debra (nee: Butts) whom he married May 31, 1980; daughter, Wendy (Michael) Mandat of Brecksville, OH; Grandchildren, Julia, Adam, Andrea, Samantha, Joe, and Alexis; siblings, James (Sandy) Petrus of Virginia and Maryann Szabados of Cleveland Hts., OH; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Szabados, Matt (Ana) Petrus and Nicole (Bryan) Kuskie; great niece, Noelle and great nephew Darin. He also leaves behind one uncle, many cousins and his canine companions, Jake and Tanner. Gerald was preceded in death by his nephew, Mark Szabados.
The family will receive friends at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon on Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with Funeral Service following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Munson Township.
