Faunetta M. Mallula (nee: Phipps), age 88 of Chardon, OH died Aug. 14, 2012 at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 25, 1923 in Chardon to Freeman and Pearl (nee: Stephenson) Phipps, she was a lifelong Chardon resident. Faunetta Phipps married Walter Mallula in Chardon on May 6, 1950 and was a homemaker. Faunetta was born in Chardon, a graduate of Chardon High School and a lifelong Chardon resident. She was a Cleveland Indians Fan and enjoyed tending to her house plants and completing cross word puzzles. “Aunt Nitie” was a very giving and fun loving person; always having a warm welcome for anyone coming to her home. She was also the primary caregiver to her parents in their later years. Faunetta’s passion was spending time with her family, especially the babies of the family. She is survived by her husband Walter Mallula of Chardon; daughters Sandra Garriga of North Bloomfield, Alnita (David) Paterson of Hambden and Nanette (Ray) Serra of Painesville; 10 Grandchildren: Dominic, Gabriel, Zakariah, Kippany, Benjamin, Gloriea, and Isaac Garriga; Ian Paterson, Salomae Anderson and Oakley Lewis; 6 Great-grandchildren and sister Arlene Popelka of Burton. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Wayne, Audrey, Gordon, and Zenneth Phipps and sisters Carol Schneider and Dorothy Phipps. A Funeral Service will be 11am on Friday Aug. 17, 2012 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, (St. Rt. 44, 500′ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square), Chardon with Pastor Andrew Beorn of Hambden Alliance Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
