THOUGHTS SHARED IN
LETTER FROM HIS DAD:
Mary and I lost our boy, Everett, last week. Our only child. He was by best friend, my confidant, my heavy lifter, my shadow. The love of my life! He was bright, kind, sensitive and generous. He was an artist, potter, gardener, and musician. He loved the back-forty, motorcycles, mowing grass and “Meeshmah” (or Buddah), his beloved therapy cat, as he called her.
Oh, how I wish I could again hear his bike rumbling down our driveway, waiting for his familiar “hello” as he entered the house with his iPad in hand.
I can’t imagine not ever seeing his handsome face or hearing his rich baritone voice again…talking about the events of the day…sharing his thoughts and concerns…laughing at his crazy sense-of-humor. There are no words to describe the joy he brought me. He was the nucleus of our small threesome.
Everett graduated from Newbury High School in the spring of 2003 and entered the University of Toledo that fall where he went on to make the Dean’s List.
A serious motorcycle accident in August 2018 nearly took his life. Following a lengthy recovery, he seemed like the wonderful boy we always knew. However, he often commented that he felt different. “It’s like something in my head was rewired, Dad,” he’d occasionally tell me.
Our precious boy was taken from us on June 6th. As I sat with his lifeless body in the ER, I held his hand and couldn’t help but think of a night long gone by when I walked the floor holding my feverish baby boy. I could actually feel his little hands holding onto the back of my neck.
Although I’ve been told that time will ease the pain, I will never be whole again. My hearts is broken in a million pieces.
I count on the next place to allow more time for the unfinished love I have for him.
