Eva I. Konya (nee: Janosfy) of Montville, Ohio passed away on April 17, 2022 at the age of 73. Eva was born in Budapest, Hungary on April 20, 1948 to Stephen Janosfy and Helen Bartko. As a girl, Eva was exceptionally studious and excelled academically. At the age of 20, Eva immigrated to the United States and shortly after met her future husband, Calvin J. Konya. The two were married on December 28, 1970 and enjoyed a happy and fulfilling 50 year marriage.
Shortly after Eva and Calvin’s marriage, Eva attended and graduated from beauty school as a licensed cosmetologist. She began working for Precision Blasting Services, which she co-founded with her husband, Calvin. Eva also worked as the first secretary for the International Society of Explosives Engineers and was instrumental in helping to develop and grow the organization.
Eva also owned a house in Hungary and helped to develop an emulsion explosive plant spending several months per year in Hungary ensuring the company’s success. She was the secretary for Geauga Magyar Cultural Society and was a member their folk dance group. Eva was also a licensed pilot and flew the plane that they owned regularly.
Eva also took in and cared for several of her relatives as they aged and devoted herself selflessly to caring for any of her family and friends in need. Eva’s proudest achievement was raising four children who she loved dearly. Eva is survived by her four children, Judy (Jim) Petrucci of Kirtland, Eva Konya of Rock Creek, Anthony Konya of Montville Twp., and Ashley Konya of Montville Twp.; and grandson, Triston Sefcik. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years and her parents.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 5 -7 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, Chardon, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 401 North Street, Chardon, Ohio. Interment will immediately follow at Huntsburg Township Cemetery.
