Elmer is a huge and happy memory in the Vogelpohl family. My dad and Mac McLaren and Nate Davis were fast card playing (Bridge) friends. Anyone who knew Elmer knows he loved to laugh, loud and hard, and that it was not possible to fail to laugh with him. My dad was not a big laugher, but Elmer could make him get tears from laughing. We always loved hearing the guys in he basement playing cards, especially special friend, Elmer. He came and visited us once for a day on Put-in-Bay when my family and mom and dad were visiting. Elmer had a ball, especially plopping his butt in an inner-tube and floating in the lake! He and Dad and I had a special day because we all flew on a 1-hour tour in the Ford Tri-Motor in its final year there. Elmer was my homeroom teacher all through Junior High and we all loved him. He was also my 8th grade math teacher in 1965 (and he was GOOD!). Our homeroom talked him into a summer party at his lake house one year. We had a ball but I think that was his first and last time hosting a bunch of 13 year-old kids at the lake! My Dad loved Elmer as a very special friend and I trust Elmer lived his life knowing how much and how well he was loved. Rest in Peace Elmer Pierce!! Family, feel free to contact me at JVogelpohl1@columbus.rr.com.
