Elizabeth “Betty” Mitchell Rowley, age 91, peacefully passed away on February 2, 2021, at Governor’s Pointe, Senior Living Community in Mentor. Born April 26, 1929, to Joseph and Irene Mitchell in Geneva, N.Y.
Betty grew up in Homer City, PA., before moving to Chardon in 1965. After dedicating years to raising her family, Betty was able to realize her lifelong dream of painting, initially by taking lessons and workshops from locally and nationally known artists. Betty became a well-known artist in Northeast Ohio with her art being included in many local and state juried shows, winning numerous awards, as well as solo exhibitions. Betty was a proud signature member of the Ohio Water Color Society. During this time, she also worked at Framefinders gallery and frame shop displaying many of her superior works at their gallery on Chardon Square.
Betty is survived by four sons, Brian (Carol) of Pickerington, Randall (Barbara) of Cleveland, Kevin (Lisa) of Greer, S.C., and Robert of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Mary Beth (Chad) Merinar of Mentor-on-the-Lake; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren and three sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jack, her parents, Joseph (Guiseppe) Mitchell and Irene (Amatea) Mitchell, her brother and five of her sisters.
A Visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the St. Mary Church, 401 North Street, Chardon, Ohio 44024. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio. The service will be live streamed from the St. Mary Church website and also can be reached by going to the icon WATCH FUNERAL SERVICE on this obituary.
The family kindly request all social distancing recommendations given by the CDC are followed.
