Dorothy M. King, age 83, of Concord Twp., OH died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, OH. Born November 28, 1928 in Akron, OH to Richard L. and Mary (Nee: Culp) Moreland she was a resident of Chardon, OH for 55 years before moving to Concord Twp. 6 years ago. She was a graduate of Garfield High School, Class of 1946 and graduated from Akron City Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1949. Dorothy Mae Moreland married Phil W. King in Akron, OH, on April 15, 1950. Mrs. King was a Registered Nurse starting her career in Chardon at the former Corey Hospital from 1950 until becoming Night Supervisor at Geauga Community Hospital from its opening in 1959 until her retirement on January 1, 1990. She was a member of the former Ruby Chapter #4, OES, in Chardon, OH and the former Chardon Aquarius Club. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, especially to their winter home in the Smoky Mountains, and later in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was an avid dog lover and was known for always carrying a supply of dog treats. Mrs. King is survived by her husband Phil W. King of Concord Twp., OH; daughter Mary Ellen Hurban of Concord Twp., OH; sons Philip G. (Marci) King of Chardon, OH and David M. (Karen) King of Willoughby, OH; grandchildren Stacey E. King of Rock Creek, OH, McKenzie and Cassidy King of Chardon, OH, Casey and Mason King of Willoughby, OH; great-grandchildren Candace and Camryn Burkhammer of Rock Creek, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Richard and Harry Moreland. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 16, 11 AM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, (St. Rt. 44, 500′ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square), Chardon, OH with Rev. Henry Woodruff, PhD, Retired officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 15, 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Chardon Municipal Cemetery, Chardon, OH. Dear Phil and family, I'm so sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. I have so many memories and want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I loved her "tell it like it is" attitude and her compassion for all in her care. She definitely left behind many wonderful memories for me over the years. May you find comfort in your memories. Dorothy is one of those people you think would have lived forever! What a wonderful soul!! I have shared SO many wonderful memories with Dorothy & Phil and will miss her dearly! She was a one of a kind person! Thanks for all the wonderful memories!! Love you sweetie!! Our best to the family & especially to our dear Phil! My prayers and thoughts are with Mr. King and all of his family.My memory of Mrs. King is of her in uniform at Geauga Community when we used to pick up my Mom after she had worked a night shift. Starched and professional, smiling and gentle, that is Mrs. King in my minds' eye.. My mother had a great deal of respect for Mrs. King and THAT to me is an imporatnt endorsement.MaryEllen, hang on old friend...find comfort and joy in your memories of times spent with your Mom. She is still very much a part of you and will always be only a thought away and forever in your heart.
