David Paul Peltier
Age 82, of Chardon, OH passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 13, 2021. He was born in Lima, OH, on March 24, 1938, to Donald and Clarice (Nee: Stoup) Peltier. David graduated from Elida High School in 1956, then received his undergraduate degree from Kings College, NY and his PhD from the University of Delaware. He married Sarah Thompson in Chester, PA on Aug. 27, 1960.
They moved to Mansfield in 1967 where David was a history professor, summer school director, and the Dean of Fine Arts. In 1980 they moved to Ada, Ohio where he served as Dean of Arts and Sciences and a history professor at Ohio Northern University.
In 2000, he and Sarah retired and moved to Chardon where he attended the Chardon United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He also joined the Chardon Rotary Club and the Geauga County Historical Society. He enjoyed singing with the Renaissance Singers at the Geauga County Senior Center and teaching at Lakeland Community College. David and Sarah loved to travel the world, but especially enjoyed their return trips to Williamsburg, VA, where he had taken a six- month sabbatical from teaching in 1976.
Survivors include his daughter, Dawn Elizabeth (William) Weaver of Chardon; sons, Darren Paul (Cheryl) Peltier of Plymouth, MI, and Drew Allen Peltier of Painesville, OH; grandchildren, Kayla, Billy, Mary, Jack Weaver and David Paul Peltier. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sarah (May 21, 2020), and a brother.
Private Family Service was held Friday January 15, 2021 at 6:00 pm.
