Chester F. “Chet” Mazer, 81, of Chardon Township, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at his residence. Born Oct. 22, 1930, in Cleveland, he had lived there before moving to Chardon Township in 1969. Mr. Mazer was a college professor/learning disability specialist at Stark Community College Canton for more than 10 years, retiring in 1987. He consulted in private practice following his retirement. Chet had also taught at University School. Chester F. Mazer married Regina “Jean” A. Zelazny in Chardon, Sept. 13, 1969. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a graduate of St. Ignatius High School, Class of 1948, a graduate of Cleveland State University, both his B.A. and M.A., and continued his doctoral studies at the Michigan State University. Chet liked woodworking and was an avid reader. He enjoyed interacting with young people, especially his nieces and nephews. Chet also spent many enjoyable days at their cottage on Georgian Bay, Canada. Survivors are his wife, Jean Mazer of Chardon Township; sister, Rosemary (Robert) Bowers of South Euclid; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and sister-in-law, Sally Mazer of Cortland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester F. and Rose (Jones) Mazer; and brother, V. Richard Mazer. Memorial Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon, OH 44024. Father Dan Redmond will officiate the Mass. Family will receive friends following the Mass. The family suggests donations be made to the church. Arrangements are being handled by The Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Chardon.
