Charlotte Lucille Holstein (nee: McCallister), age 88 of Munson Township, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022. She was born on August 11. 1934, to James and Vernie McCallister in Scott Depot, West Virginia.
The second oldest in a large family, she took on responsibility at an early age and it followed her for the rest of her life. At age 18, she was introduced to the brother of a coworker, who had just come home on leave from the Navy. Within months, at age 19, they took their marriage vows before God and family. Their deep love and respect for one another was present every day of their 49 years together. Her love for him never stopped for the past 22 years following his death.
She never met a stranger and her personality made people gravitate to her. Her laugh was contagious and no matter what she was going through, she put others before herself. Her faith in God was evident in her daily life and that faith carried her through life’s challenges. Known by many as a prayer warrior, she truly cared and prayed for anyone that asked. Her faith was her gift and it saw her through her strokes and finally Dementia.
She was so proud of her family and was loved by all. You never left her house hungry, and she always prayed with you before you left. She had a way of making everyone feel special. In her career as an Inspector at Bailey Controls, she received many awards for her outstanding work. She later, transitioned to nursing and while at Richmond Heights Hospital, once again excelled and was honored for her compassion and care for patients and their families. In her free time, she had flower gardens that looked straight out of a magazine, cooked and shared her Southern specialties, and loved spending time with her three grandchildren. She was always there cheering in the bleachers and behind the scenes. Sundays found her in church and volunteering with children’s ministries and any place she was needed.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Pam Lang, “son” -in-law Steve, grandchildren; Dr. Brandon Lang, Jordan Lang, and Brianna (Lang) Reising, and her recent grandson by marriage, Eddie Reising. The twinkle in her eye shone bright with her great-grandson, Braydon (Jordan’s son). She loved her roles as wife, sister, mother, grandma, and great-grandma. She left knowing that another great-grandson would be arriving soon. Bri shared the news and for a sweet moment, Dementia allowed her to understand as she placed her hand on that sweet baby bump…we know she prayed over him. She looked up and said, “my grandbaby”. This moment was truly a gift to our family. Dementia may take away many things from a person and a family, but it can never take away the love that has been the foundation for years. Charlotte is also survived by her brother Reverend James (Irene) McCallister and her sister, Sharon Withrow, with special sister-in-law Jean (Wendell) McCallister, and her many nieces, and nephews as well as a special friend of the family that was her landscaper and like a son to her, Chuck.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband and soulmate, “Buddy” John Holstein, infant twin sons Ronnie and Donnie, and granddaughter Alyssa. She is also preceded by her sisters: Dale, June, Maxine, Betty, Carol, Donna, and Geraldine; brothers: Dennis, Chuck, and Wendell.
The family would like to thank all those who have been on this journey with us…your calls, visits, and cards meant the world to her and us. May we all follow her example and be a blessing to someone else.
