Chris, Luana and family, We are so sorry for your and our loss of Carla. Words could never express our feelings for all of you. We are so glad we got to see her when we were in for our October visit with Tamie and family. She was so sweet to come and look us up even though she was probably tired and worn down. But we all know that was Carla. Wish we could comfort you at this time but just know that we are going to cover you with our prayers for a long time to come. Duane and Peggy Helmick

Carla was such a strong light on this earth, I know that she is lighting up Heven. Praying that all of her family and friends, especially Chris and the kids, take comfort knowing that she is in the presence of out beloved father and they will be reunited with their loving mother and wife on the Streets of Gold someday. I thank The Lord for the gift that Carla was to us, and to me personally, for she was a beautiful sister. Love and will miss you tremendously Sis.

Dear Chris, you don't know me but I grew up with Carla when she lived here in Akron and went to Community Church Of Portage Lakes. She was my childhood best friend until 3rd grade when her family moved to Stoney Glen and that is how I got to know and love the camp. It's hard to explain, but I was woken up suddenly out of a sound sleep Tuesday morning and I knew in my heart she was with our Lord. I lost my husband 3 1/2 years ago to cancer and my heart breaks when I think of the pain you are in and have had to watch when you can do nothing. Our Lord and God knows all things and loves us beyond our understanding, but I know sometime we just can't understand while we are still here on earth. I loved Carla very much and she had a very special place in my heart and always will. I will keep you, your children and family in my prayers. Please know you and your family are constantly on my mind and I am continually praying for a calm and peace for all of you.

Feeling such deep sadness for you all. A friend posted this on fb tonight and I grabbed hold of it "Lord I bring to you my burden because you know the situation. I cannot make it without you. Please comfort my heart, give me strength and help me carry on. Amen" No words I can say can help at this time, only God can give you peace and strength. I have been pondering what it must be like to be in Heaven and a smile came to my face when I thought that this Father's Day is going to be very special for Carl. He will be able to hold his daughter again and she will be able to share all her precious stories about Chris, Caleigh, Caden, Cate and Cohen. My prayers are with you daily. Love you guys! It is hard to think of words to properly express the feelings of loss. Carla's smile is always there every time I picture her. She IS, not WAS, and will always be part of us until we see her again.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I first met Carla when she was in my cabin in third grade. She was such a happy, delightful, caring little girl. She grew into a thoughful, giving, kind adult. She has touched many lives. May God give you peace knowing you will see that bright smile again! God bless!

I remember praying for Carl Smith as a teenager faithfully when he was fighting cancer. I had the opportunity to meet him once at a retreat I went on with my church to Stony Glen. It wasn't until years later at Trinity Baptist Church that I met his beautiful daughter Carla. I was her mentor mom for a few years at MOPS. She always had the sweetest, kindest spirit about her. I had gotten a chance to watch her w/ the other moms, and see her go through her last few pregnancies. What a great mom Carla was. Every time I would happen to run into her at the store, the kids were always so sweet and so polite (unusually so). Not to mention absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Your family has been in my prayers often through Carla's battle. I will continue to pray for your family. You will not be forgotten, and neither will your precious Carla.

Bryan (and Family), I have no appropriate words. I am so sorry for the (temporary) loss. But to think Carla is now with your Dad, Bob (Fose), Paul (McFadden), Holly (Smith) and so many others who knew and loved her, is of great comfort. I always looked forward to her smile at Camp Stony Glen-especially before and after each meal by the dining hall. She was always so much fun to joke around with and that same immediately recognizable smile radiates in her photo attached. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. All of you are in my prayers during this challenging time.

Dear Ms. Luana, Bryan, and family, You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I, as well as my whole family, am mourning the loss of Carla. Some of my fondest memories growing up were the times we spent with the Smith family. We didn't get to visit often, but it was such a treat when our families were able to spend time together. My heart breaks for all of you. Hoping that you all find peace and comfort in God's Love. -Laura Callahan

Dear Dawson and Smith families, I did not know Carla, but have been praying for you all through my awareness of her fight, her life, her strength through a friend at Leroy Chapel. Even never having met her, she is an encouragement to me because of her faith. Since we know, as we are told in 1Th 4:13, that "we do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope", I will continue to pray that you are held up by God's love, His truth, and His Word.

To All the Family but especially the children! I never had a personal relationship with your Mommy! But Aunt Melanie kept me posted on her earthly battle. WOW! was I impressed with your Mom's strength and endurance. She was such a fighter for you. Her love for you gave her reason to fight. Now she sits with Jesus and Grandpa and watches over you with the same love. Know that your mother lived a testimony and others, like me, that didn't really know her, prayed for her and cheered for her daily. Now out of respect for her, I will pray and cheer for you. Live a life of honor for her. And remember one day you will hug her again. I am so sorry for your loss. Amy

Dearest Luana, Chris and children, It saddened me deeply to hear of the passing of Carla. I only met her and her family a couple of times but was truly impressed by her cheerfulness, and her deep affection for her family. She was a terrific person and a true christian. I know she is watching over her family as she is sitting with our LORD. May HE bless all of you and try not to be saddened by her loss. I know we all will see her again in glory! GOD bless, Mark
