Audre G. Blair, age 96 of Newbury Twp. died May 8, 2012 at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital. Born June 1, 1915 in Newbury to Wallace and Emma (Parpart) Blair, he was a lifelong area resident. Audre and his wife Evelyn met at a dairy judging event and were married at her family home in Munson on Oct. 9, 1937 and were married for almost 75 years. Audre was a long time dairy farmer and co-owner of Burton Tractor Sales. After retiring in 1977, they spent their winters in Zephyrhills, Florida. Audre served in numerous county organizations/public service groups including being a Newbury Trustee, a 4-H Advisor for 25 years, Newbury and Huntsburg Granges, a lifetime member of the Ohio Farm Bureau and most notably served 66 years as a director of The Great Geauga County Fair. He is most well known for his work on the fair board for his involvement with the Draft Horse Dept, developing the draft show into one of the largest county fair shows in the state. He was elected to the Ohio Fair Managers Hall of Fame, Geauga County Maple Producers Hall of Fame, Ohio Dairy Farmer of the Year, Geauga County Farm Family of the Year and recently to the Chagrin Falls High School Achievement Hall of Fame from where he graduated in 1933. He was a long time square dance caller and member of the Orchettes that played at the dance halls in Northeast Ohio. Audre most enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, traveling, driving his tractors, planting/tending his corn patch and fixing corn fritters on Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife Evelyn (nee: Gates) Blair of Newbury; sons George (Kathy) of Middlefield, Gerald (Kathy) of Newbury,and Robert (Palina) of Newbury; daughters Sally Wilhjelm of Johnson City, TN, Kathryn (Jimmie) Ware of Canton and Jeanne (Reed) Pugh of Cleveland Heights; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Audre was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, Clyde and Kenneth. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM, Saturday June 02, 2012 at the Geauga County Fair Grounds with a memorial service immediately following.
