Arlene Mae Houston, age 89, of Chardon, Ohio, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, February 10th, 2022. Arlene was the daughter of the late Jacob and Edna (Haer) Christner, born on October 28, 1932, in Garrett, Pennsylvania.
She was a homemaker and worked as a waitress at The Plaza Restaurant in Chardon for many years. She enjoyed baking, canning, knitting, quilting, gardening, watching the birds that came to her many bird feeders, seeing her friends at the senior center, putting together puzzles, and moose tracks ice cream. Arlene also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by her sisters, Nancy (Donald) Stoner of Florida and Mary (Barry) Hanks of Virginia; children, Sharon (George) Koubeck of Madison, Ohio, Carol (Dudley) Whetzel of Burlington, West Virginia, Brian (Darci) Gnagey of Middlefield, Ohio, Mark (Vanessa) Houston of Roanoke, Virginia, and Jeanne Holbert of Chardon, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Houston; daughter Donna Gnagey; brothers, Harold, Tom, Sprawles, and Mack Christner; and sisters Hazel Hoover, Barbara Meyers, and Miriam Stephens.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022, at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon, Ohio 44024. Arlene will be laid to rest next to her husband at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Union Cemetery in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania.
