Dear Mrs Spence, Mark, Carol and Cynthia, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved husband & father, but glad you could all be there together to support and love one another. I know no words can bring peace or solice at this time, but do hope my happy memories of Mr Spence - all these many years later - may help. He was a charming, intelligent gentleman who was wonderful to a school girl waiting for a ride home from her mother. He didn't need to be as nice as he was to me and I don't think Mom being his Dean had anything to do with it - it was in his nature! In my dealings with the Spence family ... you're all that way. Embrace the amusing memories that come your way in the next few days. Laugh - even outloud - at things you share about your Dad. Don't feel funny about the happy memories, let them come freely & embrace them to your heart & they may keep you warm at a time when your heart needs it later. It may feel funny, you may even feel guilty, but don't - he would want you to laugh. Those are the memories that will keep you close later. Take care of each other. My regards & sympathy go out to the entire extended Spence family. Know you are in my thoughts these days & for days to come. With deepest sympathy & warmest regards, Sindy Scales

Dear Carol & family,Your father/grandfather had an illustrious career in the Navy, as a researcher, author and professor. But more than any career highlights, he was probably most proud of his role as father and grandfather. May his love surround you this weekend as you share memories, laughter and tears. With our condolences,Marianne & Gene
