WILLIAM RAYMOND “BILL” DUNNING
William “Bill” Dunning, Age 69, died unexpectedly on the morning of July 27, 2018 at his home. Born April 7, 1949 in Painesville to Raymond Dunning and Anna Dale.
Bill is survived by his wife, Christina (nee: Sitko), whom he married on October 12, 1968, his daughter Diana “Dee” (Matt) Shirkey of Concord Twp., granddaughter Briana Shirkey, sisters Susan Nettles of AZ and Linda Detwiler of Middlefield. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was a lifelong area resident. He was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cavs and the Browns. He loved fishing, especially on his boat. Bill was a lifelong fitness enthusiast working out at the YMCA, including weightlifting of which he competed in a few “drug free” bodybuilding competitions in his 30’s. His fitness passion was track and field, and he had been training for the last couple years to run in a Master’s Track & Field race with his daughter.
Bill served in the US Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. Bill also prided himself on teasing his family and friends – the greater the shock value, the louder his laughter! Bill loved his family fiercely and with all his heart. Bill was a wonderful, hard-working generous husband, father & grandfather. Bill’s greatest joy was spending time with his loving family including sisters and brothers-in-law Jim (Debbie) Sitko, Carol (Bernie) Wiorkowski, Marcia Russell, Karen (Billy) Thrasher, Donna (Mike) Mihalisin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 31st from 5:00p – 8:00pm at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (On St Rt 44, 500’ south of Rt 6/Chardon Square) Chardon. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 1st at 10am at the Church of St Mary, 401 North St, Chardon, officiated by Rev. John T. Burkley, followed by burial at Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
