William (“Bill”) F. Murphy, Jr., 77, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Port Charlotte, FL died peacefully on March 5, 2018 at HealthPark Medical Center, in Fort Myers, FL. Bill was born and raised in Rocky River, Ohio and graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1958 and the University of Notre Dame in 1962. After serving honorably in the United States Marine Corp, he obtained his CPA designation and had successful careers at both Ernst & Whinney and Ameriprise Financial.
Bill was a proud member of the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Woods and Waters Club, and the NRA. He was an active member of the Cleveland Yacht Club for over 20 years and served as Treasurer in the 1980s. Bill was a long-suffering football fan of the Cleveland Browns and a much more satisfying lifetime fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He wintered at Riverwood in Port Charlotte, FL from 2000 to the present and was a member of the Riverwood Golf Club. He was extremely proud of the fact that he had a hole-in-one in 2011, an achievement he repeated in 2012 to his, and everyone else’s amazement.
Bill recently said that one of his greatest pleasures was enjoying his children and seeing his grandchildren grow. Bill is survived by the love of his life, Judy “Sweetie” Taylor, who has been his partner in golf, travel and in all the wonderful things they shared during the past 20 years. He is also survived by a daughter, Kathryn T. Murphy of Denver, CO, a son William (“Chip”) F. Murphy III (Kim) and grandchildren Morgan, Addison and Reese of Falls Church, VA, a brother Merrick E. Murphy (Julie) a sister Maureen M. Sheehan, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
