Virginia Huxel, 93, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She graduated from Euclid Central High School in 1936 and Miami University in 1940. Ginny married George F. Huxel in 1942. She taught math and physical education at St. Mary School until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the Church of St. Mary where she was involved with the 50 Plus Club and was a senior altar server. Ginny was active in many groups at the Geauga Senior Center, and she organized the senior summer golf outings. She volunteered with the Samaritans, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and at Geauga Community Hospital. She was an avid golfer, card player, and dancer. Virginia and her husband, George, were named Geauga County Senior Citizens of the Year in 1986. She was recognized as an Outstanding Citizen of Chardon at the Bicentennial Celebration in July 2012. She and George traveled throughout the USA, Mexico, Europe, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Alaska. She enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, golfing with the St. Denis Golf League, and visiting Elder Hostels. Ginny’s children are George H. (Betty) Huxel, Ann (Robert) Andrews, James (Linda) Huxel, John (Marsha) Huxel, Edward (Jennifer) Huxel, and Beth (Daylon) Webster. She leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, Marie (Jim) McLaughlin to whom Ginny was like a mother, Helen Shea, her sister-in-law, and her close nephew, Corky Landers. She was married to George for 53 years before his death on October 29, 1995. Her parents were Jerry and Doris (nee: Schmidt) Shea and her brothers were Jack (Ellen), Clarence and Bill (Mary) Shea. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 11:00, Saturday, September 15 at The Church of St. Mary, 401 North Street, Chardon. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 and burial will immediately follow at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Twp.Donations are requested to The Chardon Board of Education, George Huxel Scholarship (on the memo line), 428 North Street, Chardon, OH 44024.
