Dick and I were best friends. We attended Hiram College together, driving back and forth between Geauga County and Hiram on the weekends and living together as roommates just off-campus. We shared a lot of dreams, aims in life, and set goals for the future, not the least of which was our eventual choice of wives. Before we could settle down and properly support our future families, we faced fulfilling our military responsibilities, obtaining college degrees, and becoming financially stable. Dick always aimed high and he suceeded in reaching his goal of becoming a Chemical Engineer. He loved chemistry and I would listen to him often go on and on about polymers, synthetics, and the Periodic Tables! I told him once, your too organic! He and Pat Smith, his future wife, were in our wedding party when Linda Kazsuk and I were married in 1955 at The Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon.Dick was honest, trustworthy, and a mentor to me. I followed his example and took action on many of his suggestions. I will miss him. I know that he must be needed elsewhere at this time, and although I do not fully understand his untimely passing, I do know that someday I will meeet him on the other side of the veil and we will embrace each other as brothers.May Pat and the family be cared for and nurtured during this great loss. May Dick always know that he was loved and that he was a contributor and left a much better place where his presence was known.Corless and Linda MitchellLayton, Utah
