PAUL A. ERNYEI, Age 90, long time Hambden Twp. resident, died on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Heather Hill in Munson Twp. He was born in Cleveland, OH, on Aug. 13, 1924, to Paul and Elizabeth (Nee: Szepessy). Paul attended Chagrin Falls High School, then joined the US Army. He married Margaret Kulcsar on Aug. 16, 1943, in Chagrin Falls, OH, then was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, fighting in 3 major battles and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received.
Following the War, he and his wife lived in Cleveland, Claridon Twp., and finally moving to Hambden Twp. in the early 1950’s. They started the Stoney Hill Greenhouses in the early 1960’s, growing mum plants for distribution all over NE Ohio. Their flowers won numerous awards at the Cleveland Flower Show.
Survivors include 3 daughters: Janice (David) Sickmeier of Harvest, Alabama, Debbie Rodriguez of Chardon, and Valerie Kaplan of Clearwater, FL; 4 grandchildren: Melanie (John) Hadley of Clarksville, TN, Denise (Paul) Hagan of Chardon, David (Sandi) Rodriguez of Kirtland, and Dan (Faith) Rodriguez of Massillon; 8 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Hadley; Delaney, Makenna and Keelie Hagan; Chase and Gavin Rodriguez; and Emilio and Ruby Rodriguez.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his father, mother, step-father, Louis Szorad, brothers, George Ernyei and Frank Szorad.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with the Memorial Service officiated by Pastor Paul Hagan of the Chardon United Methodist Church being held at 8:00 PM, at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (On Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon, OH.
