Norman E. “Norm” Hines

Age 64 of Put in Bay, died peacefully at his home on Christmas morning. Born November 26, 1952 in Detroit, MI to Victor and Lilly (nee: Rogers) Hines, he grew up in Detroit, moved to Cleveland in 1977 and then to Put in Bay in 1990. Norm was the Co-Owner of the Leather Stallion Saloon in Cleveland for more than 30 years. He has been a board member of Lake Erie Islands Historical Society and served as its Secretary for 20 years. For several years, Norm volunteered for the Village of Put in Bay Mayors Court and processed local parking tickets. He was the founder and president of the Monday Night “Upscale” Wine Club that meets at the Put in Bay Winery, the “Buddy & Ruth Fan Club” that meets at the Crew’s Nest, and he acted as their photographer and historian. Norm had an infectious smile and a devilish whit. He will be missed by all of his friends. He is survived by his mother Lilly of Detroit and his partner of 40 years, Brian Molnar. He was preceded in death by his father and younger brother, Victor. A Celebration of Norm’s life will be held in the spring. Date, time and location will be posted at a later date. He really made high school years fun. Will miss u old friend.

Norm always put smiles on everyone's face. He was caring and strong. He endured many things through life that could have caused him to become bitter. Instead he used his life encouraging others. He always pointed the way to humor and a smile.

Brian, so sorry for your loss, I hope you find comfort in knowing how much you and Norm were and are loved. May he rest in peace.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. It's beyond difficult when we lose a loved one in death. Even harder is the question whether or not we will see them again. Because we miss them dearly. The Bible gives us an encouraging answer though. At 1Corinthians 15:26 it brings out that Death is an enemy and that it IS to be brought to nothing. (New World Translation ). The King James version says Death will be "destroyed ". Acts 24:15 also says that "there will be a resurrection" though of our loved ones. Think, how you feel right now at this tragic point in you and your family's lives. Riddled with unbearable pain. It can be reversed. Sadness , mourning, tears seemingly endless. The book of Revelation gives us that unimaginable hope. Unimaginable yet Garunteed, God's word tells us, "he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed". So the answer to that daunting, disheartening question of whether or not you will see them again is Yes. You can see your loved ones again. Think how that reunion will be. You'll no doubt feel how a family mentioned in the Bible felt when Jesus resurrected their daughter at Mark 5:42. "They were beside themselves with great ecstasy ". But for now, know that God can and will comfort us in all our trials if we let him (2 Corinthians 1:4).

SO stunned by this. I am so glad I got over to visit Norm and Brian Christmas Eve. We had a nice visit. I enjoyed so many of Norm's Facebook posts, his friendliness, his biting wit and his sense of humor. He was a truly friendly and wonderful man. Will miss you, Norm.

This Christmas I lost one on oldest and dearest friends...Norm Hines. He and I were inseparable during the days of disco and The fun times we had living in the big historic house in Detroit. After meeting Brian he moved to Ohio and our friendship continued. I'm blessed to have known him in the fun times and the rough times. He has gone thru so much and I'm thankful he had Brian at his side during his challenges. My life is richer and my memories fonder for having shared them with him. I will never listen to "Victim" by Candi Staton without thinking of him and the great times we shared. "Rest in Peace" by dear friend. Time will never erase your friendship! Paul

Norm was one of the bravest human beings I have ever had the privilege of knowing. RIP Norm...you fought the good fight with such grace and humor.

So sorry I enjoyed getting to know Norm and his sense of humor. I admired his being so strong during his many difficulties dealing with his health. May he be in peace and no more discomfort

I have cared for Norm for many years and will miss his wit and subtle humor. I have always admired his strength as he struggled through very difficult health situations. I will miss him. Nancy
