Mary Jo Clair (nee: Leopold), born in Toledo, OH on September 1, 1953 to Clarence “Lee” and Rosemary (nee: Ehrsam) Leopold, died on January 16, 2017 at Toledo Hospital. Mary Jo was the fourth of Rosie and Lee’s five children. The lively Leopold family was a vibrant part of the old West End. Mary Jo attended Central Catholic High School (’71) and the University of Toledo as a theater major. Mary was a talented dancer and that passion stayed with her throughout her life.
Mary Jo was blessed with two children, Molly and Blair. She loved her children more than life and would do anything for them. She was a devoted mother and fan, watching them compete in sports as their biggest cheerleader. She was a great cook, lover of fine things, and had a keen eye for detail and an infectious personality.
Mary Jo loved being on the water, whether gracing the waters of Ft. Lauderdale on the dingy or at Put in Bay. She was “the hostess with the mostest” and always knew how to put on a good spread. She was honest, direct, made the best sandwiches, and had the wittiest one liners. She had a passion for design and every room she touched was transformed into a Mecca of perfection.
Mary Jo re-discovered her love for dancing and performed professionally for several years with Fred Astaire dance studio in Ft. Lauderdale, where she met many close friends. She was a friend to all and a lover of animals, especially her beloved French bulldog, Hank. She was also passionate about the environment and nature.
She loved her grandchildren Elle, Liam, Trent and her newest grandson Max. She is survived by daughter Molly (Mike) Momenee; son Blair Dorrell; stepdaughters Brandi Sanger and Nicole Clair; Brothers John (Peggy) and Tim (Susan) Leopold; sisters Barb Leopold, and Carol (Dave) Falkenberg and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She also leaves her former husbands, Robert Dorrell and Richard Clair. She was preceded in death by her parents.
