MARTHA H. VAIL, Age 93, died Tues., Oct. 21, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Perrysburg, OH. Martha had lived in Burton and Newbury Townships in Geauga County since 1955, and moved to Perrysburg four years ago. She was born in New Harmony, Indiana, on May 8, 1921, to Nile and Aleen (Nee: Calvert) Henderson. Graduating from North High School, Class of 1938, in Columbus, OH, she married Robert “Bill” Vail in Kentucky, on April 7, 1939. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1988.
Martha worked for Ameritrust Bank for 25 years, retiring as an Assistant Vice President in 1984. She was very active in small town theatre productions starting in 1952. In 1955, she became associated with the Geauga Lyric Theatre Guild as an actress and served many years as a board member and also was a board member of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. Martha also was a solo vocalist for 54 years at Christian Science Churches in Burton and Chardon.
Survivors include her 2 daughters, Veronica “Ronnie” (David) Fish of Perrysburg, OH, and Lorelei (Bob) Hird of Wooster, OH; 4 sons, William N. of Charlotte, NC, Ashley M. (SuJuan) of Tampa, FL, Victor H. (Richard Klein) of Rockville, MD, and Larry W. (Marie) of Chester Twp., OH; 20 Grandchildren, 40 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David A. Vail, sister, Anne Barton and brother, William Calvert Henderson.
