Marion L. “Lou” Merlene
Age 83 of Chardon Twp, died March 31, 2018 at UH Geauga Medical Center. Born September 15, 1934 to Marion and Gertrude (nee: Lucas) Merlene in Ashtabula. He was the Production Manager for Rowley Publications for many years before he went to the Willoughby News Herald, from where he retired in 1997. In 2000, they moved to Leesburg, FL to enjoy their retirement. Lou enjoyed bowling, playing billiards, the exercise room and taking family vacations. He proudly served in the US Army, stationed in Germany.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Connie (nee: Johnson) Merlene of Chardon Twp., and children, Steve (Dawn Damante) Merlene of Munson Twp. and Jason (Kate) Merlene of Kent, grandchildren Austin, Allison and Clara. He also leaves his sister in law, Penny Merlene and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Donald and Russell.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

I extend my deepest sympathies. Lou was my boss for many years at The News-Herald. Always gave me great advice on many subjects. I remember him fondly.

Hello Connie, Craig and I extend our sympathies to you, Steve and Jason on the loss of our friend Lou. He will be remembered in our time together at the Telegraph as a guiding force and light at the end of a lot of tunnels. His natural logic of solving problems at the Telegraph helped Craig and I out of many jams. We will always remember and appreciate his help.
