Lester A. Peine

January 13, 1922 - June 11, 2012

Lester A. Peine, 90, of Chardon Township, passed away June 11, 2012, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Born Jan. 13, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he had lived in Chardon for more than 70 years. Mr. Peine was a commercial printer, for the former Snap Out Forms for 15 years, and worked at Miller’s Garage at the north end of Chardon Square. After his accident, he owned and operated Peine Printing for 15 years, out of his home. Lester A. Peine married Thelma F. Collins Nov. 6, 1943, in Chardon. She preceded him in death June 27, 2004. Mr. Peine was a member of Chardon United Methodist Church and past president of Methodist Men. He also served as president of the Chardon Lion’s Club. He was an avid Ham Radio operator (K8VYT & K8LP) and started the first 4-H Ham Radio Club in Geauga County. Survivors are his children, Rev. Leslie A. (Beryl) Peine of Canton, Karen S. (Richard) Knierim of Concord Township, William J. (Susan) Peine of McLean, Va., and Connie J. (Warren) Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Mark (Leigh) Peine, Susan (Nick) Laughton, Sarah (Jerod) Oldham, Ken, Keith and Kathy Knierim, Nathan Peine, Colin(Meredith) Lasch and Ian (Loren) Lasch; and great-grandchildren, Ann, Emily, Olivia Oldham and Liesl Peine and Amelie Lasch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma F. (nee Collins) Peine; father, Robert Warner; mother, Hazel (nee Williamson) Peine; stepfather, William Peine; and brother, Charles Peine. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., Chardon. The Rev. Leslie Peine of Church of the Lakes United Methodist Church in Canton and Rev. Daniel Drew of the Chardon United Methodist Church will officiate. Private family burial will be held at Protestant Cemetery in Chardon Township. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Contributions are suggested to Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St., Chardon, OH 44024. Arrangements are being handled by The Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

My condolences to the Peine family on the loss off a wonderful man who I had the honor of knowing on the Ham Radio. I got to meet Les in person once at a radio store, and we talked numerous times on the radio over a 20 year period and Les was always an amazing and interesting man. I was not aware of his passing until now, as I was not on the radio for some time. May he rest in peace and my prayers go out to all his family , I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

CJ- so sorry to hear about your father. He sounds like he accomplished many things in his life despite adversities that came his way. I am sure you have many fond memories of him as you grew up.But it is still difficult to say goodbye to someone near and dear to us. My condolences go out to the Peine family. Although I didn't get to see Les or spend much time with him, I do recall his friendliness and positive attitude. He will be missed and remembered by all of us. God Bless.

Les was such a great guy. He had the most fantastic memory I've encountered. No matter how long it was between our infrequent meetings, he would always remember me, what kind of work I did, the names of my cats, etc. We used to chat on the Ham Radio every week for quite some time. We had some great "rag chews", that I'll always remember fondly.I'm so sorry for the family's loss. I recently lost my dad (6/3/12) and know the empty feeling. However, I know that both my dad and Les are in the most wonderful place possible, with their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Karen, Connie, Les: So sorry to hear of his passing. He was such a wondergul guy. Didn't see him that often anymore, but remember some fun times in our childhoods. Mom sends her condolences also.

Les, Will be missed by all amateur radio operators who have had the chance to get to know him as I have over the last 5 years and he has taught all of us so much over the years. Rest easy my friend.

My deepest sympathy on your hugh loss but I know you all will have wonderful memories to look back on.I especially enjoyed the holidays when he would always have a joke and a grin and I enjoyed seeing him at the church services when Les would give the sermon.
