Kathleen “Katey” Welhouse, 30, entered into eternal peace on July 25, 2014. The daughter of Dennis Welhouse and Karen (nee: Hilgers) (Phil) Melaragno. Katey was born January 7, 1984 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Notre Dame Cathedral Latin in 2002, where she was a member of the volleyball team and student council. Katey graduated with honors from the University of Maryland majoring in Journalism with an additional focus on French.
Katey’s beauty was accentuated by her love towards others and her strong resolve. She was a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, Godmother, sister-in-law and friend who will forever be missed.
Katey is survived by her parents Dennis and Karen (Phil), grandmother Margaret Welhouse, brothers Joe Welhouse and Matt (Heather Sherwood) Welhouse, sisters Patti (Matt) McKendry and Maggie (Jeremy) Lee, and seven nieces and nephews: Kaitlyn, Ellie, and James Welhouse and Julie, Denise, Robbie, and Marian Lee.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 1, at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 2 at 11:30 AM, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road (St. Route 87) Newbury. The family requests donations be made to Rescue Village, 15463 Chillicothe Rd, Novelty, OH 44072 or Joy’s Place, 12222 Mayfield Road, Chardon, OH 44024. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

It's hard to believe that the student I called "Miss Katey" has left us. I came out of retirement from Mayfield High School and taught Katey's junior English class at NDCL. She was a bright, engaging young lady. The following year, we bonded more helping with the sophomore retreat, laughing and leaning on each other as the retreat master sang the song "Lean on Me." We met a couple of times for lunch when she was in college, including one time where she showed me a cell phone video of her riding a mechanical bull for her 21st birthday. My prayers and sympathy go to her family. Miss Katey will be missed.
