At age 95, Miss Miller died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in Chardon. Born May 15, 1921, in Chardon, to Kenneth and Mabel (Brothers) Miller, she was a lifelong Chardon resident, living in the same home until entering a nursing facility in May of this year. Miss Miller was a graduate of Chardon High School, class of 1939, continuing her education at Case Western Reserve University, where she ultimately earned her Master’s Degree in Education. She taught in the Mentor School System before becoming the Social Studies teacher for the Chardon Middle School for many years, retiring in the 80’s. She was an avid traveler during her teaching years and was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians. She will be remembered fondly by former students and friends. Although Joyce never had children of her own, she always considered many of her students her “family.”
Donations are requested to the Chardon Schools Foundation, P.O. Box 838, Chardon, 44024. A Memorial fund has been established in her name to benefit hearing impaired students throughout the Chardon School District.
