John William Seitz, age 92, of Chardon and a long-time resident of Willoughby, passed away peacefully at Maplewood Assisted Living on January 20, 2018. He was born March 19, 1925 son of Carl and Anna Seitz.
John was the beloved husband of 69 years to the late Betty.
John is survived by his children Betty Bair (Barry) of Marysville, Jerry (Gwen) of Avon Lake and James (Barbara) of Mentor. Eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
John enlisted and was a Corporal in the Marines during World War II and served on the USS Canberra in the Pacific Theater. He was a founding member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Willoughby. John was the former owner and operator of Lakeland Autobody in Euclid.
After retirement he enjoyed bowling, golf, and traveling abroad and to various locations around the country for Marine Reunions.
John was an engaging man of strong character and integrity and his life was an example of hard work and patriotism. He loved God and he loved his family and looked forward to reuniting with his cherished wife.
John developed relationships with the staff and residents at Maplewood of Chardon and the family would like to thank Maplewood for the amazing love, care and dedication that both John and Betty received while they lived there.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, his brothers, Carl, Robert, Donald and sister Louise.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Maplewood of Chardon, 12350 Bass Lake Rd. Chardon, Ohio 44024
Interment will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens. Contributions can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair, Cleveland, OH 44110.
