Janek “Big John” Skorski, 75, of Chardon Twp., OH and former long time resident of Erie, PA and Charleston, SC, peacefully left this Earth on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.
Jan was born June 1, 1942 in a small farming village, outside of Bialystok, Poland to the late Antoni and Marianna Skorski. He emigrated to the United States in 1968, and settled in New Britain, CT. He then later met the love of his life, Kathy, in Erie, PA, where he was a Tool and Die maker for over 24 years, until his retirement. “Big John’s” devotion for Polish traditions filled their household with family memories during the holidays for many years. After moving to Charleston, SC, he shared those customs with new friends. He had a tremendous talent for woodworking and building furniture for his family, especially for his grandchildren. Friends and family will remember him bringing “medicine” to all the parties and sharing his wise proverbs, such as “when the bull farts, the barn listens.” All jokes aside, it was unmistakable that his heart and faith were the foundation of this man, this remarkable man, who unconditionally worked, lived and loved his family, is finally at peace.
Survivors include his children, Wesley (Audrey) Skorski of Marlborough, CT and Katie M. (James) Scott of Chardon Twp., OH; grandchildren, Maria and Peter Skorski and Alexander, Amelia, and soon to be, Baby Scott; sisters, Felicja Swietlicka and Genia (Alex) Sadowski of Poland; sister in law Michelle (nee: Szatkowski) Bradley, nieces, Amy (Brian) Danylko, Nicole Bradley and Lauren (Rico) Coletta, brother-in-law, James (Tracey) Nowak all of Erie, PA and many loving nieces and nephews still in Poland. He also leaves his furry companion, Lucja. “Big John” was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Katherine I. (nee: Szatkowski) Skorski and six siblings.
A Celebration of “Big John’s” life will be on Saturday, September 16, 2017, 1:00 – 3:00 PM at 11463 Oak Hollow Drive, his daughter and son-in-law’s home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village 15463 Chillicothe Rd., Novelty OH 44072.
Arrangements entrusted to BURR FUNERAL HOME, 116 South Street Chardon, OH 44024. Information and condolences online at www.burrservice.com.
